The analysis of Saul's failure is noteworthy in that he had many good qualities and gifts, but that did not help him. Saul was brave and could be a good military leader. Most of all he had the best of opportunities, but he squandered them. Saul's failure as Israel's king can be traced to his disobedience to God's words to him.
