Students and Graduates!
Here is the second late-night interview of the PhD Lounge Podcast. My second guest is David Finch who is in his second year of his PhD at Swansea University, researching about the literary and critical reputation of Arnold Bennett.
His aim is to find the purpose of Bennett's literary fame, but most importantly what led other dominant critical voices of his time, and some contemporary ones, thought about him and how he overcame them. To support his research and his argument, Finch is applying Pierre Bourdieu's cultural capital theory.
Finch also gives us a large history between Bennett and Virginia Woolf, another famous writer who wrote different novels, among those is Mr Bennett and Mrs Brown, and the reason of her vividly criticising towards Bennett's personality and works, alongside with other dominant critical voices which joined to her.
This and other valuable information Finch speaks about can be heard throughout the interview. So, if you are studying or thinking in studying English literature, specifically Arnold Bennett and his literary genre, then this is the right podcast interview for YOU! If you are interested in talking with David Finch regarding his topic, send him an email at davidfinchg@aol.com
Grab your phone or your laptop, put on your headphones or earplugs, have a cuppa of coffee or tea, and enjoy this fantastic conversation with David Finch.
Thank you all for listening, it has been a pleasure!
P.S. My apologies regarding the noisy sound from my guest's laptop as he does not has headphones, nor a microphone. I tried to drown it at my best through the background melody I apply to create good ambience throughout the podcast. Thank you for your understanding.
