Naturales de Harrisburg, Pensilvania, The Emperors fueron una de esas grandes bandas de soul de los años sesenta que no consiguieron dar el salto al estrellato a pesar de su indudable categoría musical. Integrados por James Jackson, Donald Brantley, Bobby Fulton, Billy Green, David Peterson y Tyrone Moss, grabaron en 1966 una canción adhesiva escrita por el baterista Tyrone Moss. Se titulaba 'Karate' y tenía influencias del R&B latino y del soul de garaje, con un riff pegajoso y bailable. ¿Qué tuvieron que ver The Emperors con Santana?
