As morning breaks Seren the Black rises early to praise God while Althea seeks out the village's Priest of Woden who interrupted the previous night's meal. Meanwhile, Dawn goes to meet Tar, the sheep herder whose behaviour he found suspicious. After a disturbed night of dark dreams. Winifred looks for Althea in hopes of some solace, but instead Althea is assaulted by a manifestation of the Darkness that stalks the village. There's a sobbing maiden comforted, an overgrown Roman watch tower, and unquiet spirits from long ago. Then ... a dark warren infested by spiders, crow spirits, and a dangerous threat before a confrontation in the Hall ... and the betrayal of a frightened innocent ...
