Leviticus- Priesthood

The priests in Leviticus had two main roles: They brought the people to God and represented God to the people. They were the go between. This is now the assignment of all believers. We are the “Priesthood of all believers” and we are to bring the people before God and represent the people to God. It seems so lofty and in Leviticus so ritualistic. How do we make this contemporary to our assignment as the body of Christ?

  1. In Exodus 19 there is a prophesy that Israel “Will be a kingdom of priests” but they never quite fulfill it. In 1 Peter 2 the church is told “You are a royal priesthood.” This is now our present reality. What does it mean to you to fulfill the two roles of the priest in your world?

  2. When we read ancient texts we are to look for the transcendent in the limited cultural moment. The transcendent is the ongoing thing... it transcends the culture and moment. Transcendence is looking for the what is permanent and ongoing. What is transcendent about the priesthood?

  3. One thing Joel mentioned is that if we want more of God in our lives we need to recognize the Divine in ourselves and others more. What is one way you see the heart of God coming out of you?

  4. What is a way you’ve seen the heart of God coming from others in a way that inspires you to do the same?
