Today, we’re joined by Natalie Slagle, Certified Financial Planner(TM) and co-founder of Fyooz Financial Planning, a company specifically created to help couples manage their finances together.
Natalie tells us what it’s like to run Fyooz with her husband Dan and describes the step-by-step process the two of them use when they work with a new couple. They start with a “discovery process” which is a conversation about each partner’s money history and values, and then move into a “current reality review,” a tally of assets, debts, income, and expenses. The next step is an investment discussion that gives couples a roadmap to plan for their future.
We discuss the importance of financial transparency between partners for the health of their finances and their relationship, and Natalie outlines some scenarios when couples might consider a prenup. We close with talking about student loan debt and a few of the financial goals couples should consider in the early years of their marriage.
(We had a few sound issues in this episode, but they don't take away from any of the great information!)
