It’s time for a manicure- the nails are prepped, different collections are presented but...what color should I choose? ….We understand. Choosing a nail polish color can be sometimes daunting and many people still haven’t got it figured it out when it comes to choosing one that suits them best. PRITI NYC- The pioneer of natural nail polish looks based in New York breaks it down to take you out of this constant dilemma by sharing the best-proven ways to pick the nail polish color.

Skin tones

The need to choose according to the skin tone cannot be overemphasized. The aim is to compliment the skin not to wash out. Here are colors to try out

  • Light skin:

Nude shades, blush pink, pastels bright classic red.

Note: Stay away from beige if you have a pale undertone and avoid very dark colors.

  • Medium skin- olive skin tones:

Red-orange, pastel blues or sky blues, purple, peachy pink.

Note: gold colors might not be flattering on your skin tone.

  • Dark skin:

Deep wine red, deep purple for berry undertones, pastel purple, bright blue colors like cobalt blue, bright pink.

Note: avoid nude shades and deep gray for black skin.

Undertones:

As far as skin tone goes, knowing the undertone also goes a long way in choosing the right nail polish- says Priti NYC. Undertones are either warm, cool, or neutral and here are the colors that go with it. Undertone is the color beneath the skin surface and it can be a bit difficult to know. Just because you have the same color as your friend, you have to use the same polish color. Your undertones might be different.

How do I know my undertone? Simply check out your vein to determine your undertone. If you have green veins, you are more of a warm undertone. If yours are blue, you are a cool undertone. If you cannot see any of these two, you are neutral. Moreover, checking out clothes colors that always earn you compliments from people is a good way to figure out the undertone. Blue-red can be cool while peach or orange-red can mean you are more of a warm undertone.
