In advance of his appearances this weekend in the Lone Star State, Ring of Honor superstar Shane Taylor joins us on the Pro Wrestling Recap!
THE BIG 3
In the words of Paul Heyman, CM Punk was “victimized” by Mike Jackson this past Saturday at UFC 225. Jackson seemed to toy with Punk all the way to a unanimous decision victory. When asked if Punk should continue to fight, UFC President Dana White said, “The guy is 39 years old. I love the guy. He’s the nicest guy in the world. We gave him two shots and he had a lot of heart tonight in this fight. I think he should call it a wrap.” With his UFC career seemingly over before it really started, will Punk’s failure in MMA drive him back to wrestling?
Ring of Honor is headed to the House that Bruno built, as the company has secured a date in 2019 to run a show at the legendary Madison Square Garden. Chris Ripley – CEO of the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which owns Ring of Honor – made the surprising announcement in this week’s Baltimore Business Journal. The Garden has long been a stronghold of the McMahon family and WWE, which makes Ring of Honor’s booking all the more shocking. How critical is it for ROH to be successful in what has historically been the McMahon family’s go-to venue?
New Japan’s Dominion show has come and gone, as have the title reigns of nearly every champion on the roster. Michael Elgin, Hiromu Takahashi, and the Young Bucks all captured championship gold over the weekend, but the title changes everyone is talking about took place in the evening’s final two matches. Chris Jericho defeated Tetsuya Naito for the Intercontinental Championship, and in a one hour and four minute classic, Kenny Omega finally vanquished Kazuchika Okada to become the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Who’s win was the bigger deal: Jericho’s or Omega’s?
SHANE TAYLOR
ROH Superstar Shane Taylor talks about escaping his troubled childhood, losing nearly 100 pounds, and his plans for ascending to the top of the Ring of Honor roster.
