Orion Minerals gains key prospecting rights at Okiep, eyes new copper resources

Orion Minerals Ltd (ASX:ORN, JSE:ORN) managing director and CEO Errol Smart joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with details of the company's latest achievement of securing two prospecting rights over the Flat Mines Area, significantly enhancing its position around the Okiep Copper Project. This is a critical milestone for Orion Minerals as it advances its key projects in South Africa. Smart elaborated on the strategic importance of these new rights, noting that they have been in the works for three years. He highlights the historical significance of the Okiep Copper District, which has produced over 2 million tonnes of copper. Orion Minerals has consolidated 75% of this district and is in the final stages of bankable feasibility studies for both the Okiep and Prieska copper projects. Smart also detailed the extensive historical data from Newmont and Goldfields that Orion Minerals is utilising to advance the project. He emphasises the rapid progress expected with the new prospecting rights, including imminent drilling and geophysics work. Exciting recent drilling results include intersections such as 50m at 5% copper, positioning Orion Minerals for significant resource expansion. "The district at Okiep is incredibly important. You know, it's produced more than 2 million tonnes of copper historically," said Smart. "Now we've managed to consolidate about 75% of the district, and we have been going through a methodical process of going through the historical Newmont and Goldfields exploration data."
