Self taught artist Catherine Fleming from Galway, joins the show today and shares her creative process and journey. Join us as we explore Catherine's early developed of her technique in realism, predominantly portraits and botanical drawings and the shift to exploring themes of mental health and human expression and how the truth of a person can be communicated via their body language alone. Plus much more... Catherine has exhibited in several exhibitions over the course of 2020, both online and in physical gallery shows such as Ambivalence with 33Contemporary Gallery in Chicago and the Winter Open exhibition in The Courthouse Gallery in Co. Clare. Catherine currently resides in the coastal village of Spiddal in the west of Ireland where she works in her studio overlooking Galway Bay. Artist Statement "My artistic practice involves exploring the idea of pure physical expression, how the body alone can portray emotion and the individuals self image. I exclude the face in my paintings as I believe facial expressions can be more easily fabricated than the rest of the body. I believe that all humans, with practice, can master the ability to control what their facial expressions tell the outside world yet the body is less easily manipulated. I am constantly experimenting with new ways to conveys these ideas from the use of bold patterns to articulate the distress within ones mind to far more understated techniques." - Catherine Fleming If you've enjoyed this episode and want to support Catherine Fleming you can follow her on Instagram @catherineflemingart --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/processofcreatingpodcast/message
