The early church was made up of Jews who had formed their identity during a time of exile, persecution, and a blossoming of new ideas of what it meant to be God's people in the world. If some of the ideas presented in the New Testament seem to be a bit different from the ideas we see in the Old Testament, there's a reason for that: people don't stop thinking.Let's have a close look at what Protestants call the "apocrypha" and see how these pieces of literature can help us understand the time of Jesus and the ideas of the early church.
