Michael Godfrey - The Bread of Life - On this Sunday in the iturgical Christian communities the gospel reading is from the latter half of John Chapter 6, as Jesus is depicted saying, in one of the great “I am” sayings, “I am the bread of life.” Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Clearly he is speaking of a metaphysical hunger and thirst, put perhaps first we should pause and recognize our faith-based responsibility to those whose hunger and thirst is literal and desperate.
