Hij koos er bewust voor om eerst manschap te worden alvórens de stap naar het officierschap te maken. Grote uitdagingen gaat hij níet uit de weg. Zo nam hij met succes deel aan een driedaagse ultra-run in de Schotse Hooglanden.
Andere uitdagingen liggen in het verschiet, want énerzijds heeft hij nog maar net te horen gekregen dat hij volgend jaar de nieuwe commandant van de Vaktechnische Opleiding op de School Verbindingsdienst wordt, terwijl ánderzijds midden volgend jaar het vaderschap op hem wacht.
