Have you ever felt like we are held to higher expectations than others as teachers?

This is a common issue among teachers because guess what? We have lives too! I have taught for years and talked to teachers all around the world. There seems to be a consensus on the fact that teachers just aren’t respected the way that they should be. Not only are they feeling like they aren’t respected, but they also don’t feel valued, and it feels like they are being taken advantage of.

We are expected to give our entire lives over for the outcome. But we are more than just teachers. We are human beings with goals, hobbies, families, and lives outside of the classroom. We should be able to live and enjoy our lives outside of the classroom without all the judgment about what we do.

The higher standard that teachers are held to is quite baffling at times. It differs from state to state, but some are so strict that it's just not fair to those teachers at all.

Tune in to this episode to hear more of my thoughts on the expectations that are placed on teachers and my thoughts on things we can do to push back against these unrealistic and unfair standards.
