Grant McKee was looking for something to do with his money and decided to light it on fire. That’s a paraphrase for what he actually says, but here we are nine years later and he and his wife, Jennifer McKee, are still at it and open. They are part of the reason that Avondale is so cool! 16th coolest neighborhood in the world! Where does the name come from? Well, Grant does not really know, but there was a bar in Chicago called Bucket O’ Blood, a cult movie Bucket O’ Blood, and is a general term for a particularly seedy area. Another owner of a record store whose profession has expanded his musical pallet from heavy metal into Jazz and Country and other stuff. He and his wife go see a lot of concerts and are called out as the Bucket O’ Blood guy! And they have proven the early naysayers who shared “No one has lasted at this location,” wrong! Listen in...
Bullet Notes:

  • Grant McKee and his wife Jennifer have owned Bucket O’ Blood: Books and Records for 9 years.
  • They have been in Avondale on the Belmont at the corner of Belmont/Elston/California for 7 years and have seen some changes.
  • They sell books, music, and movies.
  • They’re books trend towards more Sci-Fi, horror, and fantasy.
  • Grant DJ’s around town.
  • Karen and Grant met at a screening of Repo Man, an early 80’s cult classic Sci-Fi comedy film.
  • Little known fact – Grant loves the “Monster Mash”!
  • Avondale is the coolest neighborhood.
