Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.
Independent RPG month returns for 2024 with a look at 2 indie darling games. I backed Knave 2e on kickstarter last year and received the package not too long ago and have since been diving into this updated system with enthusiasm. I was initially wondering how Ben Milton would pull off expanding such a small game with this edition, but what I found was a robust set of tools for any GM and for any D20 fantasy system that justified this book. I opted to also look at Cairn 1e in this episode as this game springboarded off of Knave, and similarly also has a second edition that is greatly expanded (although that one is still in the works, yet to be released). Tune in to hear why you should consider giving one of these systems, if not both, a shot, or at least see what you can take from them for your own game and preferred system.
