Pastor Paula concludes an eight part series on the Beatitudes from Matthew 5;1-8 with a message on "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake." This is one of the hardest beatitudes to understand--and to experience. We live in a world where people don't often associate blessings with pain and telling someone they are blessed when they are being persecuted can come off as heartless. But when we realize that these words come from our God, we are able to find hope, even as we accept the hardship that comes from following a Savior who died because he took up his cross and who calls us to do the same.
"Blessed are the those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. " Matthew 5:10-12
Opening; Scriptures-1:43; Message-6:07; Song "Lead Me Lord" -21:26; Community Connection-24:07; Closing-26:26
Scripture Texts-Matthew 5:10-12 New Revised Standard Version; Phil. 3:7-11 The New Living Translation; Matt. 10:16-23, 26-39 Good News Translation
Many Thanks to Pastor Dan McKnight, the opening announcer, Dana Stansbery who read the Scriptures, Camy Wenberg who sings "Lead Me Lord" and Ruth Skinner who sings the the closing song.
