The BBC Radio adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion closely follows the plot of the original 1913 play.
The story begins on a rainy night in London, where Professor Henry Higgins, a brilliant but arrogant phonetician, encounters Eliza Doolittle, a poor flower girl with a strong Cockney accent. Higgins is fascinated by her speech and makes a bet with Colonel Pickering, a fellow linguist, that he can transform Eliza into a refined lady within six months simply by teaching her how to speak properly.
