"Sorry, Wrong Number" centres on a bedridden woman named Mrs. Leona Stevenson who, while trying to call her husband, accidentally overhears a conversation between two men plotting a murder. As she becomes increasingly desperate to get help and prevent the crime, she encounters various obstacles and dismissals from those she contacts, including the police and a hospital.
Throughout the episode, Leona's panic and frustration escalate as the pieces of the plot come together. The climax reveals the chilling twist: the intended victim of the murder plot is Leona herself. The story ends with the sound of a struggle and Leona's screams as the murder is carried out, followed by the chilling final words from one of the killers: "Sorry, wrong number."
