I have a problem with authority (no surprise there). Anyone who has known me for any length of time knows that it is in my nature to question everything. So, suffice it to say, I would not do well in a strict, military environment. It is such a foreign concept to me why anyone would want to subject themselves to that kind of living, and so, naturally, I wanted to understand why someone might consider joining the military.
That's where Tommy comes in.
Tommy is Dan's friend (he was the best man at our wedding), but in true dude-form, they only refer to each other as high school lifting buddies. He joined the Marines shortly after leaving high school, and while he's one of the funniest, weirdest, most quick-witted people I know, he is also deadly serious about his role as a US Marine.
In part one of this episode, Kristin sits down with Tommy to talk about what it's like to join the Marines and how he came to make that decision for his life. Part two of this episode will come out next week, and we'll delve into what combat can be like and what it's like to come back home.
