When was the last time you were really vulnerable - like you really needed help? This is the context into which Isaiah is praying. Israel really needed help. Tear open the heavens and come down! Advent begins from a place of desperation - the place of helplessness - the place of vulnerability. If we're honest about it, we're all in that place of vulnerability. The ways in which we've messed things up are too big for us - we need help. We need a savior. If we don't acknowledge our helplessness and vulnerability - then what are we waiting for during Advent? We may be helpless - but we're not hopeless. Isaiah then references a whole bunch of times when God saved Israel - came down and saved them in their past. If God did that in the past it gives us hope that God will do it again. Speaker: Aaron Vis Scripture: Isaiah 64:1-12 http://bible.com/events/49178529
