Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele says he's asked Australia to help his country expand its police force to 3,000 officers, after his first visit with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for bilateral talks.

The two leaders said that Solomon Islands had agreed to a new "three-tier" arrangement to guide its security policy, but will that ease the concerns of Opposition parties in the Pacific?
