The opposition's foreign affairs spokesman Simon Birmingham has criticised the Prime Minister for calling Julian Assange as he touched down in Canberra last night.
In a post on social media, he says the phone call was not "necessary nor appropriate", saying Mr Assange was undeserving of that kind of treatment.
