Universities and private education providers are bracing for a cut to the number of international students coming to the country, as the federal government looks to reduce immigration levels.

Senior government ministers will outline their plans in a meeting with the sector today, but there are warning from the sector that Australian Universities, are facing "death by a thousand cuts."
