The ongoing shortage of GPs and specialists has seen the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency leading the implementation of a federal proposal to fast-track registration for overseas-trained anaesthetists, GPs, obstetricians, gynaecologists and psychiatrists.

But two of Australia’s leading medical colleges are urging them to slow down, amid concerns the quality and safety of patient care could be put at risk.
