Recently, the Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of a qualified health claim confirming soybean oil's ability to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Soybean oil is the most widely used edible oil in the United States. Most oils sold as vegetable oil are soybean oil.

Is this important to us?

That was one of the questions we asked today's guest, Dr. Penny Kris-Etherton, Distinguished Professor of Nutritional Science at Penn State University. Of course, as part of our overall commitment to good food and exercise, it is very important.

Diet is one of our favorite or least favorite topics, depending on our weight and general physical condition. Of course, there's so much conflicting advice on there on what to eat, not to eat, good levels of fat, all with an eye on what is good for our heart.

Overseeing this complex machine in the US is the FDA. They have set very clear standards on a "balanced diet". Not all agree with their standards. We can choose lifestyles such as Mediterranean-style diet, Paleo, Vegan, etc. This conversation will give you insight on all of those options and much more as you try to sort your way to great health.

And, if you have children, there's great information, too, on properly fueling children.
