Freakbeat es un término creado a comienzos de los años 80 por el crítico musical Phil Smee. Este coleccionista británico usó la etiqueta para englobar a bandas y singles de la segunda mitad de los años 60 que era complicado clasificar. Su estilo mezclaba beat, R&B y psicodelia, había melodías y grooves bailables combinados con instrumentaciones pesadas y agresivas, y todo enmarcado en un contexto underground, alejado en su momento de cualquier atisbo de éxito comercial. El freakbeat es un territorio sin fronteras, el primer cajón de sastre de la historia del rocknroll, y estos son solo algunos ejemplos.
