Ladell McLlin at Woodstock Guitares
Sharing some time with the guitarist, singer, and songwriter Ladell McLin near Colmar at Woodstock Guitars February 4th.
I had the chance to meet LADELL McLIN, this amazing blues guitar player but above all a born blues lover. His style is a mixture between Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz. The interview took place in the great Woodstock Guitars shop and Ladell McLin even took a Martin guitar and played something for me.
It’s on the South Side of Chicago, where he was born that he first began to play drums with his brother. His father and brother were already accompanying legends like Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and later Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. LADELL McLIN began to play with a guitar left at home and this is how he discovered his own way to express the blues. He learned a lot on stage playing with Koko Taylor band, Johnny Guitar Watson band or even Buddy Guy himself. He appeared on many recordings before releasing his own albums. When he moved to New York, he toured the world as the James Blood Ulmer guitarist. He began his solo career in 2005 with the release of his first album Stand Out, acclaimed by many international publications. Since then, he delighted the European public but he also performed in Canada or Africa. In 2009, the French film director Michel Viotte asked Ladell Mclin to be the focus of a documentary on the influence of the blues in American culture “Sur la route du blues” (on the Road to the Blues). He also participated to the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2011 where he played with big blues names such as BB KING, Robert Randolph, John McLauglin, Santana, Susan Tedeschi, Dereck Trucks. If you didn’t hear about Ladell McLin until today, you will discover a wonderful musician but also a great human being.
