Interview with Martin Barre of the Martin Barre Band, also famously known as guitarist of the legendary rock band Jethro Tull

Martin Barre-1970s

Circa 1970s

Rock At Night spoke with legendary guitarist Martin Barre about his upcoming tour with the Martin Barre Band, which kicks off in the US in New York City on April 10th. The band includes Martin Barre (guitar, mandolin), Dan Crisp (vocals), George Lindsay (drums), Alan Thomson (bass), and Richard Beesley (sax/clarinet). During the tour, you can expect to hear some vintage Jethro Tull and also originals from Away With Words, Order of Play and recent blues-rock album Back to Steel. Barre promised some surprises along the way–which he did not reveal, so you will just have to catch one of his live shows to find out.

During the interview, Martin Barre discussed his latest album Back to Steel and his blues-rock music; his early days with Jethro Tull; his strong connection and affection for America; advice for aspiring musicians on how to survive in the music business today; how he is technologically-speaking “old-fashioned”; and also some of the current bands he enjoys listening to today.

You can’t be a musician for six months and then retire… you’re a musician for life

– Martin Barre talking about the lack of continuity and staying power in today’s music.
