Dr Shane, Dr Jenny, Dr Ray and Dr Euan bring you this week’s science news, including why certain bacteria favour particular host noses, using seagulls to spot illegal dumping of waste, analysing brain changes as teenagers mature, a new measurement of eye sensitivity, and the University of Melbourne’s upcoming Science Festival.

The team talk to Dr Tracy Heng, Head of Stem Cells and Translational Immunology Laboratory, Monash Biomedical Discovery Institute at Monash University, and Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, about her recent award for stem cell research, related to bone marrow transplants.

They also chat with Professor Staffan Persson - School of Biosciences at the University of Melbourne, about the cell structures in plants.

Finally they speak with Professor Peter Rayner - School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne, about the climate records trapped in Antarctic ice cores.
