Protesters took to the streets of Indonesian capital Jakarta on Thursday, to rally against the government’s proposed electoral reforms, which have been seen by some as a way to prevent critics of the government from running for office.
Protesters surrounded the parliament building, chanting and singing, while banners were displayed reading ‘democracy in crisis: are we free?’ Many protesters attempted to climb the fence surrounding the building.
The protest continued into the night, and was met by riot police on motorcycles, who attempted to keep the crowds away from the parliament building.
