As Elon Musk and Donald Trump hosted an X Space, the first topic was, unsurprisingly, the failed assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. While the pair made no direct accusations, the implications were clear. How on Earth does a shooter get on a roof 130 yards away,’ Musk asked. The two seemed incredulous that the Secret Service somehow missed a shooter, before Trump began to criticize Crooks for having terrible aim. ‘From 130 yards, a bad shot would hit that target almost every time,’ Trump said, mocking Crooks.
Turning to Trump’s reaction to being shot, the iconic photo and the chant of ‘fight,’ Trump was characteristically modest. ‘I didn’t know I had that much blood!’ he said. ‘I knew immediately that it was at the ear. It hit very hard,’ he said. ‘I moved down pretty nicely, pretty quickly,’ he said, ‘we had bullets flying right over my head after I went down.’ However, perhaps uncharacteristically, Trump thought someone else was responsible for saving his life: God. He called his last-second head turn to read a chart about immigration statistics ‘a miracle,’ and said ‘for those people who don’t believe in God, I think we’ve got to all start thinking about that… I’m a believer now.’ Not just God though. ‘I love that chart,’ he said.
