5 WAYS OF GIVING FOR GOD’S PEOPLE DESCRIBED IN THE SCRIPTURES

1.TITHING The first 10th of our income: Mal 3:6-14 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! [storehouse=Temple/Levite’s cities—where you receive spiritual food and help.]

But NT-2 Cor 9:7 “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” Hilarion>God is attracted to a person who discovers it’s a joy to give/can’t wait (“The most fun you can have with money is giving it away”).

Mt 24:45-47 45 “A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. 46 If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. 47 I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns… 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.

2.OFFERINGS a financial gift of any amount over and above your tithe as God has prospered you. (Supporting the things that advance the Kingdom). Sometimes overlaps with—

3.ALMSGIVING giving to the poor. It is giving that is motivated by compassion and is offered to relieve suffering and meet basic needs. (May be service/sneaky). Support of organizations. Prov 19:17 “If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord—and he will repay you!” Mt 25:40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,[f] you were doing it to me!’

4.FIRST FRUITS The tithe was given after the harvest. First fruits were given to the high priest at the beginning of the harvest of whatever crop happened to be ripening, as well as the firstborn of livestock. (Lev 18, Num 23) Directed to those with whom we are spiritually aligned, ideally to the apostles whom God has assigned to oversee our lives and ministries and to whom we are accountable.

Directly blessing those figures with a voluntary offering from new blessings from God’s favor: When you get a raise, give the full amount of the raise as firstfruits; If you make a new investment, give the first month’s or quarter’s returns on the investment; If you get a new job, give your first day’s or week’s or month’s wages. Unexpected windfall.

5. SEED OFFERING was given with anticipation of harvest to follow. You intend it to grow and produce a return in response to a promise or action of God you see and are investing in. The expectation in first fruits and a seed offering is in sharing in the blessings and anointing of God you perceive on what God is doing there.

God is looking for servants with character & thinking like his: generosity & trust there’s more

Above all, offering should be done deliberately and as an act of worship. Not to any church, not to any pastor, but to God alone to say, “I love you & thank you for all I have. I trust you for all I need. I want to be a partner with you in what you’re doing.” God will honor the smaller gift from a fixed income as much as he will from the millionaire’s contribution. But he asks each to trust him about these things in faith.

2 Cor 9:5-11 I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity[e] in you.11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
