Bhagavad Gita Ch. 3 v. 33 - 38, The Insatiable Fire of Desire: In this Bhagavad Gītā Satsaṅga, Sri Krishna discusses how desire – left unchecked –becomes insatiable: Greed can never be satisfied. This is the enemy to navigating our way through life in both small & grand instances. What is the remedy to this greedy enemy? To know the Self, and allow the Self to firmly compose the self. Ready? evaṁ buddheḥ paraṁ buddhvā, saṁstabhya-ātmānam-ātmanā |

jahi śatruṁ mahābāho, kāma-rūpaṁ durāsadam ॥ 3.43 - भगवद्गीता ३।४३

Thus knowing Him as superior to the intelligence, having firmly composed the self by the Self, slay the enemy, difficult to overcome & having the form of desire – Bh.G. 3.43

Once we know what's better through experience, our inclinations naturally shift from older less beneficial ones to those higher quality inclinations that we have now come to know. The subtler higher aspects of our self - once known by experience - cause us to naturally put down the less healthy aspects of our past behaviors & choices. This verse is talking about contacting that which is beyond the intellect as being the guiding force to cause supreme transformation. We approach this step by step according to our own process.
