Exploring Tomorrow | The Liar (by Isaac Asimov) | Broadcast: February 26, 1958

Meet Herbie, a telepathic robot who tells lies! Remember Asimov's laws of robotics! Tonight’s story is about a liar, somebody who doesn’t tell the truth, somebody who injures people by not giving them the true facts. But suppose you have someone who injures you by telling you the truth would he be a liar? Such is the latest model of robot named Herby who can read minds and will always tell you what you want to hear so as not to break the rule not to hurt a human. + Have you stopped to figure out just what you mean by a liar? A liar is somebody who doesn’t tell the truth, somebody who injures people by not giving them the true facts. But suppose you have somebody who injures people by telling the truth, would he be a liar?
