The conclusions of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee 80 (MEPC 80) set a clear direction on shipping’s pathway to decarbonisation.

Now that we’ve all had time to digest the conclusions of MEPC 80 the Seatrade Maritime Podcast sat down with Joseph Gardemal, Regulatory Affairs Manager for ABS to talk about what lies ahead. Speaking with Marcus Hand Editor of Seatrade Maritime News, Joseph offers an inside perspective of how the tone has changed at IMO and real progress was made.

In this episode Marcus and Joseph discuss:

  • How significant was the progress made at MEPC 80?
  • How much work will be required by shipowners to reach the new levels of ambition?
  • The impact of new 2030 targets and how shipping will meet these
  • Well-to-wake emissions and fuel choice
  • Creating regulatory certainty
