Sometime in October 2008, 22-year-old United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Stacy “Annie” Dryden and an unnamed male sailor had an alleged “impromptu” grappling match, which resulted in Annie sustaining a head injury. Later that evening, she told her friends she felt as if she had a knot on the back of her head.

The next day, Annie was found deceased in a portable latrine aboard Al-Asad airbase, in the Anbar province of western Iraq.

Months later, different details began trickling out into the open as Annie’s family pushed for answers, painting a much-changed picture as to what occurred that day in October 2008.

One thing is clear however: the events in question and the cause of her death depends on who you ask.

Let's break down the details.
