虽然法国人从70年代就开始做计划,但是一直拖到1987年,这艘核动力航母才开工建造。先是叫黎塞留号,后来改名戴高乐号。两台反应堆加上辅助的柴油机,总功率是7.6万马力。还比不上美国人的斯普鲁恩斯级驱逐舰呢。既然动力有限,就必须在减小阻力上精打细算,首先是吨位不能大。吃水太深,阻力太大。所以吨位就被局限在了4万吨的满载排水量。船一小,就只能螺丝壳里做道场了,必须要精打细算。

首先必须选择阻力最小的船型,法国人用计算机算了很多种方案,最后选择一种比较圆润的柳叶型水线形状。这样一来,船就不能造得太长,甲板全长只有264米。其次就是稳定性问题,北大西洋风高浪急,船晃得跟冲浪似的,舰载机怎么起飞啊?戴高乐号太小太轻,稳定性方面是吃亏的。于是法国人加了一对减摇鳍。用主动控制的方式,来减低穿浪的晃动。你别说,这一招还真管用,如果和压载均衡系统相配合。别看戴高乐号只有4万吨,稳定性和8万吨级的航母差不多。可以在6级海况的条件下,起降舰载机。全年有效作战天数,可以达到85%……
