The beginning of African American contributions to this nation began in 1619 right here in Virginia, specifically at Fort Monroe in Hampton, where the first Africans to English North America arrived. On the next Another View, we'll talk about that first landing, and about the pivotal role Fort Monroe played in slavery and emancipation.
