Episode #4

They’re everywhere. In movies. On TV. Advertisements. But with all their presence in popular culture, penguins are unfortunately not as visible any longer in the wild. With more than 60 penguins, the Zoo’s colony is the largest and most successful breeding colony of African penguins in North America. The effort to help save these now endangered birds is a conservation project that spans decades and is more important than ever as their numbers continue to drop in their native South Africa. Avian Collection and Conservation Manager Jen Kottyan shares her passion for penguins and why she enjoys investing so much in the care and conservation of these warm weather, flightless birds.

Plus, learn about how the Zoo’s newest exhibit, Penguin Coast, is helping to broaden efforts to help the species and putting guests Closer Than Ever to these beloved birds.
