In this episode of The Darkroom Podcast we had the pleasure of speaking to Shaaz Jung, a naturalist, big cat tracker, wildlife photographer, and National Geographic cinematographer. For the last decade, Shaaz has built and managed multiple wildlife conservation and ecotourism camps in South India and East Africa, leveraging his art to preserve the animals and the forests he grew up in. Shaaz began his pursuit in conservationism by tracking and studying leopards, allowing him to develop a breathtaking body of work that now captivates an array of wildlife. Shaaz’s photography can only be described by his own unique genre called environmental surrealism, using shadows, light and the elements around him to highlight the animals he captures. In partnership with National Geographic, Shaaz’s story and those of the animals he grew up with will be shared around the world.
