In the news this week a move that will interest both podcasters and DJs. Twitter has revealed that it invested some $70 million in Soundcloud earlier this year. I discuss what this might mean for online DJs.

Podtrac has published their second monthly Top 10 ranking list of Podcast Publishers, covering May 2016. http://analytics.podtrac.com/industry-rankings/ - Podcasting statistics for May 2016 including Podtrac’s Top 10 Podcast Audience Ranking of Publishers

RadioToday Industry News report that the Radio Academy in the UK is launching a new awards event this year. There will be 16 awards including Best Podcast, Best Digital and Audio Service (to include internet and streaming services). There will also be more traditional awards aimed at terrestrial radio stations.

Rain News reports on an article written by James Careless of RadioWorld, which is a history of Internet radio beginning in 1993 - http://www.radioworld.com/article/radionet-looks-back-at-internet-radio/279017

Rain News also covers a really intriguing story from Jane Huxley, the Managing Director of Pandora in Australia and New Zealan. She spoke at Mumbrella 2016 which is Australia's biggest media and marketing event. During a panel discussion called ‘The future of radio in the digital world’, Huxley said that the rise in appointment-listening on Pandora showed the potential of audio as a delivery option for news. https://mumbrella.com.au/podcasts-future-investigative-journalism-pandora-boss-m360-373280

My new podcast to listen to this week is a UK-based show called Roots for Creativity. http://rootsforcreativity.com/roots-for-creativity-podcast/. Host Pascale from rootsforcreativity.com shares inspiring thoughts, tips, tools and rituals to reclaim your sanity, clarity and energy. A quick round-up of events At the moment the only event I have confirmed is James Cridlands’ Next Radio conference on 19th September in London. New Media Europe Conference This weekend I attended the 2-day New Media Europe conference in London. Join me next week for a discussion of some of the great presentations on podcasting I heard over the weekend.
