The Valdosta State University team had not been to post-season in 23 years. As head coach, in his second year with the Blazers, the team went to the Sweet 16 of the National Tournament.
In addition to VSU, Coach Yarbrough was twice a finalist for National Coach of the Year. In 2005, he took the job at Southeastern Louisiana University where he served for 9 seasons becoming the second winningest coach in school history.
