Introduction:

  • Recently, I was asked how to regain control of a calendar for a better work-life balance. Here’s exactly what I did. The steps are easy to implement, and your business, family, and sleep habits will thank you.

Key Points:

Prioritize Your Passions:

  • Family and football (soccer) come first. Block out time for games and ensure there’s an hour before and after each game for preparation and highlights. These blocks are non-negotiable.
  • Watching football is more than a hobby; it’s a passion that I often joke is part of my job in B2B consultancy for sports clubs.

Family Time:

  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner with my family are sacred. Our children are homeschooled, allowing us to select tutors from around the world for a customized education.

No Alarm Mornings:

  • My calendar is blocked until noon to allow natural wake-ups, which significantly improves my overall well-being and productivity.

Defined Work Hours:

  • Have a clear endpoint for your workday. This prevents burnout and allows time to recharge.

Implementation Steps:

Schedule Your Interests:

  • Block out time for sports events or hobbies. This ensures uninterrupted time for what you love.

Meal Times:

  • Block out time for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Sharing meals with family is non-negotiable.

Morning Routine:

  • Decide on a natural wake-up time and block out your calendar until then.

Work End Time:

  • Set a specific end time for your workday and stick to it.

Use Technology Wisely:

  • Use tools like Calendly to manage availability, but control personal time to prevent your calendar from filling up with meetings and calls.

Final Thoughts:

  • Taking back control of your calendar is tough initially, but the benefits are immense. You’ll be more present and effective during work hours, and your personal life will improve.

Action Points:

  • Block off personal interests.
  • Schedule family meals.
  • Set a natural wake-up time.
  • Define work hours.
  • Control your calendar.

Invitation:

  • Join my workshop on getting booked on stages and podcasts to make appearances profitable. Workshop Link
