In der DDR gab es eine politische Massenorganisation für Kinder, genannt "Pionierorganisation Ernst Thälmann". Die Kinder trugen Uniformen mit blauen oder roten Halstüchern, und wer sich besonders auszeichnete, durfte seine Ferien am Werbellinsee in der "Kinderrepublik Wilhelm Pieck" verbringen.
