Lisa shares how she coped with the grief and loss of her father, not once but twice. Who is Lisa Sugarman? She is a Boston-based columnist, author, Crisis Counselor and public speaker for organizations like The Trevor Project and National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI).

Lisa tells her story and describes her emotional experiences at 10 years old when her father died, and as an adult when she discovered he died by suicide.

1. Depression

2. Low Self-Esteem

3. Negative Self-Talk

4. Lack of Meaning or Purpose in Life

1. Actively watch and listen to people around you

3. Give people time and space to express their feelings

4. Provide a safe space for them

5. Allow vulnerability

6. Be part of a community who will care for people

Understand that most people don’t want to die….they just want their pain to end
