Many of us caring-oriented people often stay longer in conversations longer than what feels good to us. And you just don’t leave because the other person really wants to connect!

What ends up happening is you get frustrated and release it to your partner – and that’s not good.

Here’s my piece on how you can leave the situation with kindness and compassion.

Tune in to this episode: When You Don't Feel Like Talking

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️ Develop a lexicon as a cue that you’re at maximum capacity.

For my partner Patrick and I, it sounds like, “Hey, I’m full.” This allows us to seamlessly end our talk or transition to another topic.

✔️ Give each other permission to be honest.

This prevents the other from taking it too personally.

✔️ Leave conversations effectively.

We all can get sensitive to feeling abandoned or rejected. Express how genuinely interested you are but your bandwidth is unable to take in more. The other person will feel comfortable employing this technique with you and others too.

✔️ It’s a kindness to be true about what’s happening to you.

Talking to somebody who doesn’t want to be there feels terrible. Agreeing on a signal prevents conflict and creates room for more intimate conversations in the future.
