Flood the black mountain and your Patience and perfume
Mists for the northern country, the earthly water
Holds the great mountains with an awful mystery.
Still as the pines along the river anchorite
Of the great sea on their monotonous spires,
Found the great silence with their dazzling crystal.
Only to the river they came in mute accord,
Singing the pleasant pleasant music in her cloud,—
Happier than a voice that closed above her soul,
Questioning that presence in the infinite love;
Interprets by utterance of a love divine,
Like a strong presence in the infinite divide,—
Drawn from itself around the circle of the sky,
Questioning that presence in the eternal eye.
