Our story starts in the year 1009, when the Fatimid Caliph Al-Hakim orders the destruction of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Not only do the Caliph's actions stir up the first rumblings of a possible Crusade in the West, but the eventual success of the Crusaders a century later will be predicated on the decline of Fatimid Egypt as a regional power.
