“I sing along but Acadia is gone.” In Episode 26, Kiara and Natalie (AKA “Nat” or “Natalia”) take a break from their usual routine of crying in quarantine to talk about the pop-punk sophomore effort, Masterpiece Theatre (2009), from Canada’s own Marianas Trench. The nostalgia factor is real as these two socially distanced pals recall their angsty teen years fuelled by music from these west coast boys and other Canadian groups over a few Acadian Maple Sours; and it’s a real battle of the bops, sad jam duets, and everything in between as we break down the “interactive” tunes, lyrics born to live in your MSN screen name, millennial woops, and the front men whom we wanted all to ourselves. This album begs its listeners not to take themselves so seriously, and we cross our hearts and hope to die promising to follow suit (just wait until you hear our Gordon Ramsey impressions).
